OMC! (Only Maine Coons Rescue) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.
We are a 100% volunteer-run/breed-specific rescue group that specializes
in the Maine Coon Cat breed. We rescue Maine Coon Cat / Kitten mixes from
shelters and unwanted situations. On occasion, we rescue purebred (PB)
Maine Coon Cat / Kitten(s). This means that they have papers registering
them as a purebred cat. In addition all of our cats are lovingly cared
for in Foster homes until they are placed into their furrever
homes.
Although we cannot guarantee the percentage of Maine Coon in each cat
that we rescue. Be assured that each Coonie cat represents
the breed in a satisfactory manner. Please take a look at the Maine Coon
cats in need of a furrever home by clicking on this link:
Available Cats.
In order to start the adoption process, please fill out an Adoption Application
by clicking on this link Adoption
Application.
We are a close-knit group who all work together to make adoptions happen
as quickly as possible, and to ensure a happy ending for the coonie and
the new adopter.
The Maine Coon Cat:
One of the oldest natural breeds in North America, the Maine Coon cat
is known as the Gentle Giant of cats. Maine Coons or Coonies
as they are affectionately called are tall, muscular, big-boned cats.
Males commonly reach 13 to 18 pounds, with females normally weighing about
9 to 12 pounds. Add to that two or three inches of winter coat, and you
have one big looker on your hands! With a splendid long coat, a large
ruff, big tufted ears, giant mitts (many coonies are polydactyl), and
a glorious bushy plumed tail that is the trademark of the Maine Coon,
you have a stunning cat.
Maine Coons develop slowly, and don't achieve their full size until they
are three to five years old. Their dispositions remain kittenish throughout
their lives. They are big, gentle, good-natured goofs, and love to play.
They have a distinctive, chirping trill instead of the typical meow, and
are super smart. They make wonderful companions and love to hang out with
their owners, investigating what you are doing and helping out if they
can! Maine Coons are relaxed and easygoing, with males more clownish than
females, who retain a bit more dignity! They generally get along well
with kids and dogs, as well as other cats. Often dog-like, these cats
suit most any household, and will become a beloved family member at the
speed of light!
OMC! (Only Maine Coons Rescue) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization
that relies on donations from the public. We welcome donations, and 100%
of all monies raised go to the well-being of the Maine Coons. Some of
the expenses that go along with saving Maine Coons are: vetting costs
(i.e. shots, Spay/Neuter costs, and any needed medicines), pull fees (this
is what shelters charge our rescue to remove a cat from the shelter),
food, and litter. If you would like to donate to OMC, please visit our
Donation page. You may also donate by mailing in a check. Please make
checks payable to: ONLY MAINE COONS RESCUE
