Meet handsome Forest. About 5 years old, this guy has a gorgeous gray and white medium-length coat and an even lovelier friendly personality. His first action in this foster home was to exit his carrier and come over for pets and he jumped on the foster parent's lap within the first hour. Forest also happens to be a polydactyl, with plenty of extra toes. Known as writing cats, thanks to Hemingway who popularized them, anyone looking for an attentive kitty who loves attention and lots of people time will love Forest.

Forest is definitely a friendly cat and should do great with adults or families with kids as long as the kids are familiar with basic cat behavior. (Although he wasn't thrilled and squirmed away quickly, he's put up with me trying to groom out some fur mats and has been pretty good at the stressful situation of visiting the vet, no deliberate scratching or biting, etc). He can be picked up easily and will jump on laps when he's in the mood. Forest has been eager to play with all my pets (including the fish, lol). With my cats, Forest has been playful, but non-aggressive, backing off when my kitties (one very senior and one very shy) weren't ready to play. At the vet, Forest was able to come near a dog and also showed no adverse reaction. With a gradual introduction, he should be great with all pets (provided they aren't aggressive towards Forest). Most important for Forest, is that he needs a home where he will get a LOT of attention; he's not a cat who will do well left alone for long hours. (When he's alone, he'll start whimpering and meowing for attention within an hour). Still with a bit of the kitten-phase energy, Forest loves to follow the foster parent around the house and lounge near them. And he's eager to explore and check out everything (I had to extract him from a tiny box yesterday that he thought he could fit into!). An adopter who works from home would ideal for him as would homes with multiple people so that he gets the attention he needs.

Forest is in general good health but does have a health condition that adopters should be aware of, as it will need monitoring. He has a grade 1 heart murmur. (Maine Coons unfortunately can be prone to this). Forest has the mildest form of the condition and usually cats do fine and have a typical life span. But it is something that vets recommend gets annual monitoring and there are periodic tests that are recommended (specifically a ProBNP snap test and, if you want to be extra careful, an echocardiogram can be done too; though it's normally done with more severe forms).
